A Liger Zoo in Philippines is named as Biliran Mini Zoo. This Liger Zoo has at least one liger at its small Zoo area. This Liger Zoo is located at an Island of Philippines named as Naval Biliran, and the zoo’s name is derived from the Island name where it is situated. If you are from Philippines, then you should feel very lucky, because you can easily see a liger by visiting this beautiful Island of Biliran. The exact address of this Liger Zoo is “Biliran Mini Zoo, Villa Cecilia Sitio, Lomboy Brgy, Calupang, Naval Biliran, Philippines”. This Liger zoo is not that much big and there are very few animals, but yet still it offers you a lot of animals to see and enjoy.
Currently there is only one liger at this Zoo. This Liger was born at the Biliran Mini Zoo during the year 2011. Currently this liger is 3 years old. It is a male liger and it weighs at least more than 500 pounds. The name of this liger at the Biliaran Zoo is not known yet. There are very little online news resources which give any reference to the only liger at Biliran Zoo in Philippines. Youtube does have couple of videos of this liger, but all of these videos were captured during the year 2012. There are no latest pictures of this liger available on any online information resource and that’s it is very hard to get further information about this liger. A death possibility cannot be ignored as well about this liger, but we still remain optimistic about the presence of the liger at Biliran Zoo unless a confirmation comes from an authentic source.
Biliran Mini Zoo as the name indicates is a relatively small zoo. There are about 10 big cats at this Liger Zoo and the presence of the liger is rather a surprise factor for the visitors as even the biggest zoos in Philippines does not have a liger but this small Biliran Zoo has a liger. This Zoo has lions, Tigers and Leopards as well. Most importantly Biliran Mini Zoo is the first Zoo of the Philippines to breed male lion and a female tiger to produce a liger as an offspring. Therefore; this is certainly a very significant contribution of this zoo towards unique species on earth.
The enclosure which we saw where this liger at the Biliran Zoo is living is relatively small. In fact it will not be exaggerated if we shall categorize it as a mini zoo with a mini enclosure for a liger. The zoo itself is a small, and that’s why this zoo has made small cages for the big cats, where they put them in. Of course from the first look it always seems like a real slavery of the animals at the zoo, but the lack of resources is one such factor, because of which the liger and other big cats at the Biliran Zoo are kept within small enclosures. However; this does not mean that they do not love animals, the authorities of Biliran Zoo do love their animals and care them at maximum which they could do and as far as enclosures are concerned we personally think that they should be big enough for the big cats to live in a healthy environment. We shall personally advise this zoo authorities to sell some of their animals to some other countries which have good facilities for big cats and in return, they boost the lifestyle of their remaining big cats.
No liger related event is celebrated at Biliran Zoo. The only significant news buzz about their liger is limited to youtube or on rather small blogging/forums website. Apart from that there is no information boost of this liger at Biliran Zoo. They should have at least engaged in few information reporters from Philippines and could have a huge news buzz throughout the world, but they could not do so at international level which is rather disappointing indeed. They can sell their liger to a country which does not has a liger before, this way, they can not only create news buzz for themselves, but also cash in some goodwill as well for their animals at the zoo. This is just a suggestion and the authorities at the Biliran Mini Zoo might have other ideas.
This Liger Zoo is a perfect example of a zoo which has one of the unique big cats of the world, and yet still failed to capitalize any financial returns for animal preservation. Maybe they have their localized approach for their animals, which could have snapped the current situation. It will be interesting to visit this zoo. The zoo is placed in a Naval Island, therefore; security might be well-beefed up at this zoo. Other than such scenarios; couple of reviews and feedback will further confirm whether this Mini Liger Zoo is worthy enough to be visited.
