Big Cat Rescue Center is also classified as a Liger Zoo in our pursuit for tracking ligers from around the world. This is located at Tampa, Florida, USA. This zoo is one of the biggest of the big cat attractions at Florida. The authorities at the zoo are more focused on the conservation of the wild big cats rather than domesticating big cats at homes, zoos or even at animal sanctuaries. However; they always seem to welcome any abused and abandoned big cat and also assure their full care at Big Cat Rescue Center Zoo. They have rescued ligers as well, and that is the key reason that ligers are part of this zoo from the last couple of years. However; the Big Cat Rescue Center Zoo does not endorse breeding of the ligers.
Currently Big Cat Rescue Zoo has one adorable female liger named as Freckles the ligers. Freckles the liger had a male African lion as its father and female Bengal tiger as its mother. According to Big Cat Rescue Center, Freckles the liger was not born at the zoo but rather it was rescued from being abused from the third party. However; they never seem to explain the origins of Freckles the liger. Freckles the liger weighs well over 450 Pounds, which makes it equal to the weight of male lion or even a tiger as well. Among females, all the female lioness and tigresses will look dwarf in front of Freckles the liger.
The Zoo is in operation from the last 11 years or so. The Zoo got its operating license during the year 2013 while before that the Zoo was in operation with some other names during 1990s and early 2000s. Carole Baskin is the founding member and CEO at the Big Cat Rescue Center Zoo. She has been interacting with big cats since 1990s, and currently she has 100s of Big Cats at its Big Cat Rescue Center. Personally Carole Baskin is against ligers. She does not like ligers, and she has condemned liger breeding on most of the occasions. But contrary to that she has kept male lion and female tiger at the zoo in the same enclosure, so what does this suggest? Maybe these tiger and lions both are castrated.
The Liger enclosure at the Big Cat Rescue Center Zoo is surrounded by grilled netting, with an extra barrier at 1 meter distance from the enclosure. They currently adhere with all the safety and security procedures at the liger enclosure. The same standard is kept for other animals’ enclosure as well. The safety standard is not only for the safety of the visitors but also for the safety of the ligers and other animals as well. Big Cat Rescue Center claims to provide Fresh Food and clean water to the animals at their zoos. There are hundreds of animal rescue trainers and volunteers at the zoo, who work together as a team and assure the best service for the animals.
The biggest liger related event at the Big Cat Rescue Center Zoo took place during 2010, when the liger Freckles needed a Tooth Surgery. Big Cat Rescue Center had a special surgery and medical care facility at its zoo, which takes care of the animals. Actually this female liger was suffering from toothache and tooth decaying problem, and her tooth needed an immediate attention of the dentist. After a careful look it was decided that a small tooth surgery will be best for Freckles the liger, which will make her free of any pain. Freckles the liger was given an Anesthesia dose, to kept her semi-conscious for the tooth surgery. The tooth surgery lasted few hours, after which Freckles the liger was sent back to its enclosure. The next day Freckles the Liger awoke up a bit dizzy but within the span of just 1 week, Freckles the liger became fully active and started to eat normally like a normal and happy big cat.
