Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge offers perfect opportunity to witness ligers at its animal sanctuary. Turpentine Creek does not encourage breeding of the ligers, but rather they rescue abused ligers and many other big cats. This liger zoo started its operations during the year 1978. They started the zoo with a male African lion and onwards through the passage of time they acquired more and more land and also rescued thousands of animals. The current President of Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge is Tanya Jackson Smith. Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge has at least 12 more animal sanctuaries throughout United States.

Ligers at Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge are kept in very spacious enclosures. The liger enclosures meet all the safety and security requirements which mean that these enclosures are not only safe for the visitors visiting the animal refuge but also a guaranteed safety for the animals as well. Both the male and female ligers are living in one shared enclosure. The enclosure of both the ligers is very neat and fresh supply of water is always given to the animals. The flooring of enclosure is based on hard concrete rather than muddy which is rather strange because most of the liger enclosures which we have studied so far in our studies, they usually have muddy or grassy flooring rather than concrete flooring. Ligers are regularly gone through health checkups as the vets are always available at the Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge.

The Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge has liger stories rather than liger related events. Most of these stories are related with rescuing wild or domestically abused animals. All the ligers that have so far been living at the Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge are believed to have been rescued from being abused previously. The story of Jade the liger is a very famous one indeed at Turpentine Creek Wildlife Sanctuary! Jade the liger was part of the circus previously and as soon his masters realized that he is too old and is of no worth any further, they abandoned simply abandoned him. However; the Turpentine Creek Wildlife Sanctuary came to know this animal abuse in time and they brought Jade the liger to their animal sanctuary and gave him the best life which it would have never even imagined.

The overall experience of this liger zoo is rated very positive by the visitors. Tripadvisor.com and yelp.com both reviewed this zoo as being very good in terms of users’ experience. However; the only thing that will still be lacking at the zoo will be the numbers of liger related events. Turpentine Creek Wildlife Animal Sanctuary still does not boosts its liger presence through any liger related events. Moreover; they have a big piece of land of around 500 plus acres, and they should introduce liger or any wild animal safari stuff as well. Ligers will indeed be happier if they will live in vast lands rather than their presence within spacious enclosures.
